The rising tide of AI has left no industry unaffected. As a result, professionals across industries are educating themselves on how best to leverage AI in their jobs. While there is no dearth of conversation within high tech circles, the same cannot be said for the vast majority of the workforce – including professionals in customer support, sales development, account management, technical support, and many more.

Today, people in such roles see AI as a threat due to the uncertainty and instability it brings. It is unclear what their job will look like in the future given the unprecedented rate of AI advancement. Despite these fears, AI has the potential to increase productivity, automate mundane tasks, and improve the quality of work, enabling better work in less time.

Women are the workforce participants most acutely impacted by these technological advances. While women make up more than half of the workforce, a McKinsey Global study found that women are 1.5 times more likely to have their jobs displaced due to AI. To make matters worse, women have historically not had the same access to STEM education and tend to take career breaks, making it even harder to stay relevant as compared to their male counterparts. Given the pace of AI advancement, a job can go from mission critical to obsolete in the span of six months.

While AI will never automate away the human touch required to deliver exceptional experiences within these roles, it is already shaking up the playing field. It is time to address these changes head on, starting with those most impacted – women.
